Please join us on January 20th at the Renaissance Hotel in Amsterdam for Search Engine Optimization for your Business with Fiona Passantino, owner of Distant Train.

To be in this industry and remain at the cutting edge for almost 20 years requires constant running, learning and scrapping old ways of doing and thinking. Innovation is an integral part of the business, even as changes come ever faster and ever deeper; even in these times of economic crisis, change within the technology we use for our business and personal lives does not slow down. It is tempting to deny the recent past and wipe our memories clean as one would a USB stick, focussing only on the new and the dazzling. However, to create lasting innovation we are required to remember, to reflect and often revert to “old school” sensibilities and plain old analog common sense.

This is a fairly technical lecture for those already maintaining and using their own or their company’s websites, focusing specifically on getting those websites optimized and user-friendly, Google-ready and enticing. How do I improve my ranking? How do I build traffic? Are my tags well-written? Do I stand out from the other results? Does everyone need a Twitter feed? When should I have a Facebook page and when should I leave it to my private life? What is RSS? What is tagging, cloud navigation? What is crowd sourcing, and what is the value of my “crowd”?

In this lecture we will break open code, examine best practices and work towards a more optimized website.

We will also have some fun!

Participants are welcome to network from 19:00 to 20:00. The program begins at 20:00.

Registration and Guest Policy: Registration is required for members (free) and guests (30 euro). Attendance fee includes snacks and drinks. Guests are allowed to attend two EuropeanPWN-Amsterdam functions per year. For information on membership, please send an email to membership@europeanpwn-amsterdam.net.

Travelling is an integral part of today’s life yet often time spent at the airport is seen as a burden rather than a delight how it was back in the days when air travel was a sheer luxury.

Privium is an innovative service concept for frequent fliers which puts the pleasure back to travelling by offering exclusive facilities that provide speed, comfort and priority.

The ClubLounge has every convenience, such as a well-stocked bar and a Light Energy Cabin where you can recharge. Or you can enjoy a comfortable reading corner with an open fireplace and other work spaces.

Speaker: Anna Farrenkopf

What do we really know and understand about global warming?

Oceangrapher Anna Farrenkopf will help us better understand what researchers know and help us put it into perspective. She’ll share wisdom from the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Conference. This talk will be presented as part of the Connecting Women speakers series in Den Haag.

Do come to this presentation with all your questions about the weather, trading carbon credits or whether there’ll be too much or not enough water in 2020.

Time : 19:00 – 22.00

Address: Christus Triumfatorkerk, Juliana van Stolberglaan 154, Den Haag 2595 CL

Dr. Farrenkopf earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography funded in part under the auspices of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) – Initiative, she is a past-participant in the Hawaii Ocean Timeseries, and co-author of Bermuda Ocean Times Series research.

This talk was originally inspired by sharing a plenary session at a local high school Environmental Science Career Fair in Portland Oregon with local TV weatherman Matt Zafino. Variations of this talk have also been presented in Wilsonville Elementary school to an audience of eight year olds and at the July 2009 borrel in the Hague.

Anna was born on a small island north of Boston Massachusetts in the town of Rockport. She grew up tending to both award winning flower gardens and racing sailboats on the ocean. After completing her chemistry degree, beginning a Ph.D. in oceanography seemed a logical way to pursue applied environmental chemistry. Early during her masters work Anna was invited to participate in the Netherlands Indian Ocean Program (NIOP) sponsored by SOZ through Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht (present day NWO and Utrecht University).

Her award winning research enabled many world wide collaboration opportunities in exotic tropical and sub-tropical locations such as the Seychelles, Hawaii, Oman, Kenya, Pakistan and beyond. For her post-doctoral work Anna travelled to Portland Oregon where she worked with numerical modelers to validate their 3 D simulations with real-time chemical sensor data. Anna came to the Netherlands in 2002 to innovate instrumentation for environmental research.

Of course we know her as the EuropeanPWN-Amsterdam borrel coordinator who often finds herself in the exotic locations in and around Scheveningen Harbor! Anna’s passion beyond networking with business women is to inspire and encourage girls and boys in the subjects of science, engineering and mathematics.
